This study demonstrates a correlation between project managers’ perceived influence and project engineers’ experienced motivation in a multicultural project matrix organization.
The most striking finding is that motivation in project setups like … department can be meaningfully enhanced when project managers focus on selected key motivational factors within their control – particularly personal development, autonomy, feedback, and meaningful work.

Using a mixed-methods approach – including six qualitative interviews and structured surveys among 128 employees (76 completed) – the analysis combines Hofstede’s cultural dimensions and Helle Hein’s archetype theory with classic motivation theories by Hackman & Oldham, Herzberg, and Meaning of Work.
